Hi, my name is Dan Reut, and I’m an aspiring game developer with a deep passion for creating interactive and immersive experiences.
My love for games started when I was a kid, spending hours playing SEGA games at a store with my dad. But it wasn’t just games that fascinated me—I also dreamed of becoming a film director. Movies inspired me so much that I considered pursuing a career in filmmaking. However, my love for computers was even stronger, which led me to earn a Master’s degree in Computer Science.
After graduating, I moved to the United States, where my journey truly began. I tried filming a few short movies, but I quickly realized that the precision and constraints of filmmaking weren’t for me. The limited time for shooting and the reliance on post-production tools like CG and VFX made the process feel restrictive.
Then one day, while browsing the internet, I stumbled upon Unity. Back then, Unity had a split model—free and paid versions—but its potential immediately captivated me. The idea of creating something interactive and having complete control over the creative process was mesmerizing. Unlike filmmaking, where you’re bound by physical constraints like sunlight or weather, game development offered real-time changes and endless possibilities.
But, like every meaningful story, life added a twist. When my daughter was born, I made the decision to prioritize my family and support them by pursuing a stable career in IT. I took a role at a large IT company in Jacksonville, FL, but my dream of becoming a full-time game developer never faded.
I discovered game jams during this time, which reignited my passion for game development. In 2018, I participated in my first Global Game Jam with a team, and we created a game called Pandora’s Music Box. The experience was exhilarating and deeply rewarding.
Soon after, I released my first solo game, BeatCoin AR, on the Apple App Store. It was an augmented reality game leveraging what was then a cutting-edge technology.
While these experiences were exciting, I realized that I still had so much to learn to transition into game development full-time and support my family. That’s when I committed to mastering every aspect of game creation—from programming and 3D modeling to concept art and game design.
Today, I’m on a journey to turn my passion into a profession. This blog is where I document my progress, share lessons, and connect with others who share the same love for games.
Join me as I learn, create, and strive to make my dream a reality.
